Michael S. Brown was born in Athens, Georgia and remained in Athens until the age of twenty-two. He attended Cedar Shoals High School. During high school he was involved in numerous activities. He was vice-president of his class and was a member of the school’s baseball, basketball and football teams. During his senior year he received over twenty scholarship offers to continue his football playing career, including such schools as Vanderbilt University, University of Virginia, Notre Dame, Duke University, Southern Methodist University, Georgia Tech, Clemson University, University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Georgia.
Michael ultimately chose to attend the University of Georgia, where he was a three year letter winner and started his junior and senior seasons as a defensive back. In addition to receiving numerous awards for his play, he was also recognized for his academic accomplishments, including being named two times to the Academic All-Southeastern Conference Team and winning the College Hall of Fame academic award. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management from the University of Georgia’s distinguished Terry School of Business. Michael was also elected as a student to the most prestigious organization on campus—the Gridiron Secret Society (which has nothing to do with football despite its name).
After working in the real estate field for several years, Michael decided to go back to school and attend law school at Georgia State University, choosing Georgia State University because it allowed him to remain in Atlanta and work during his course of study. While in law school, Michael competed on the school’s Moot Court Team and Mock Trial Team, where he and attorney Kim Stephens first joined their litigation skills to form a winning team.
After graduating from law school, Michael went to work for the oldest and most prestigious law firm in Savannah, Georgia, working for well-known attorney, Sonny Seilor. During this period, he handled multiple complex cases, including several multi-million dollar divorce actions in southeast Georgia. Michael returned to Athens to begin his practice in his home town for a short period but was recruited by one of the country’s most successful financial firms and became its President and General Counsel. During his years as President and General Counsel, Mr. Brown presided over and negotiated hundreds of multi-million dollar financial investment deals and helped grow the company both in the United States and internationally. After years of frequent travelling, Michael moved back to Athens to practice law and spend more time with his wife and children. He partnered with Kim Stephens to form the Stephens and Brown law firm, a boutique law firm with a winning reputation.
Michael lives in Watkinsville with his wife of more than two decades, Traci, and their three teenage children. Michael remains involved in athletics, coaching youth sports and more recently successfully competing in Crossfit competitions throughout the Country.
